Maria C Cantu Obituary (1949 - 2025)

It is with heartfelt reverence that we celebrate the vibrant life of Maria C Cantu, born May 24, 1949, in Cuencame, Durango, Mexico, who left our world on December 18, 2025. Maria C, a resilient spirit and a beacon of love, resided in Eagle Pass, Texas, and was known for her infectious laughter and an unwavering love for her family. She lived her life by the words of Maya Angelou: "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Maria C's life journey was punctuated by her unwavering strength, resilience, and the bonds she fostered with her family and friends. Widowed at a young age, Maria C found solace and strength in the love of her family, most especially her daughter, Marisela Escalante; her grandchildren, Natalie Mendiola and Ignacio Jr.; and her great-grandchildren, Natalie Mendiola, Kayla Mendiola, and Miguel Mendiola. She was a matriarch in every sense of the word, ensuring her family was surrounded by love, joy, and good food. As Helen Keller said, "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart." Maria C's love and devotion were felt deeply by all who knew her. Now, Maria C joins her beloved parents, Sostenes Nuñez and Delfina Martinez, in eternal rest. Her spirit, however, lives on in the hearts of those who loved her. A viewing will be held on Monday, December 22, 2025, at 2:00pm CST at Memorial Funeral Chapels, 1705 Del Rio Boulevard, Eagle Pass, Texas, 78852.
