Maria Luna Vargas

–

Italy, Texas

Maria Luna Vargas, born on February 28, 1934, in the tranquil town of Villa de Fuente, Coahuila, Mexico, passed away on October 16, 2024. Maria was a woman of extraordinary courage and determination, whose life was a tapestry of love, resilience, and the celebration of her cultural heritage. As the famous Mexican writer, Carlos Fuentes once said, "One wants to tell a story, like Scheherazade, in order not to die. It's one of the oldest urges of mankind. It's a way of staking out one's own being, one's own personhood." Maria's life, too, was a story beautifully told, a testament to her indomitable spirit and the love she had for her family and her culture.

Maria embraced life with an open heart and arms wide open, creating a warm and welcoming home in Italy, Texas. She was a beacon of hope and strength for her family, nourishing them with her wisdom, care, and the delicious Mexican recipes that were a family tradition. Maria enjoyed the simplicity of life, finding joy in the everyday things. She was widowed, her beloved partner Arturo Vargas having preceded her in death. Maria's life, however, was far from being all about solitude. She was surrounded by the love of the Vargas Luna family. She showered them all with her endless love and affection, creating memories that they will cherish forever.
