Sofia M. Segura

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Sofia M. Segura, a beacon of love and resilience, on December 23, 2024. Born in Cuatrocienegas on February 7, 1928, Sofia spent her 96 years imparting wisdom, nurturing relationships, and sharing happiness with everyone she met. Sofia, a lifelong resident of Eagle Pass, Texas, remained the heart and soul of her community until her final days. As Henry David Thoreau said, "The most I can do for my friend is simply to be his friend," and Sofia was a dear friend to many.

Although she never officially held a job, Sofia’s occupation was arguably the most important one - a homemaker. With meticulous attention to detail, Sofia created a home filled with warmth and love for her loved ones. Her hands were never idle, whether preparing her famous tamales or knitting blankets for the newborns in the family. Sofia was married to the love of her life, Israel Segura, who preceded her in death. Together, they raised their children, Rolando, Israel, Hortencia Segura, who remember their mother as a devoted matriarch with a heart of gold.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Salvador Martinez and Juanita Mata, and her loving husband, Israel Segura. A Velacion will be held for Sofia on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, and Thursday, December 26, 2024, at 10:00 am CST at Funerales Socorro, located at 1011 Avenida Emilio Carranza, Piedras Negras, Coahuila de Zaragoza, 26020. The Sepultura will take place on Thursday, December 26, 2024, at 12:00 pm CST.

The words of poet Maya Angelou resonate with Sofia's life: "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Sofia's warm smile, nurturing nature, and the love she shared will forever be remembered and cherished by those who were fortunate to know her.
